Add a child, with or without a phone

Children do not need their own phone or email. In the Family tab, tap Add a kid profile, fill in Kid's name, Age and an avatar, then set a 4-digit PIN. The child opens their profile on a parent's phone with Switch member. A teen with their own phone is invited with Invite a member as a Teen.

The UrusFamily Today screen: the next task and today's list

How do I add a child who has no phone?

  1. Open the Family tab and tap Add a kid profile. Parents and adults can do this.

  2. If you have no PIN of your own yet, the app asks you to Set a parent PIN first. Enter 4 digits, then Enter the PIN again. This PIN keeps your profile out of a child's hands.

  3. Fill in Kid's name and Age, tap Choose avatar, and if you like fill in a Daily target of points. Leave the target empty for none. Tap Next.

  4. Set a 4-digit PIN for the child and enter it again. The kid profile is created once the PIN is saved.

Age is stored as a birth year, so a child's age goes up by itself every year.

How does a child use a parent's phone?

  1. On Today, tap your avatar at the top right. You can also open the More tab and tap Switch member.

  2. Pick the child's name and Enter PIN for that child. A parent's PIN works too.

  3. The child sees the Today, Calendar and More tabs and ticks their own tasks. The Family tab and the Quick add button are hidden for kids.

  4. To switch back, open Switch member, pick your own profile and enter your parent PIN. Fingerprint or Face ID works if it is turned on.

How does a child with their own phone join the family?

  1. In the Family tab, tap Invite a member and pick Teen under Invite as.

  2. If the child already has a kid profile, pick their name under Who is it for?. Their points and history stay.

  3. Share the code or let the child scan the QR code. A teen code is valid for 7 days.

  4. On the child's phone, install UrusFamily, create their own account, choose Join and enter the code.

Teens do their own chores and still need approval. A teen account stays in one family only.

Can I add children during setup?

Yes. On the Add your kids step during setup, fill in Kid's name, Birthday and an avatar, tick I am this child's parent or guardian, then tap Add this child. Repeat for each child. Their birthday goes on the calendar every year. You set the child's PIN later, the first time you pick them in Switch member.

To change a name, age, birthday or PIN later, open the More tab, Family settings, Members, and tap the child. The Edit member sheet has Save and Reset PIN.

Questions

Does my child need a phone or email to use UrusFamily?

No. A kid profile has no account or email. It sits under a parent and opens with a 4-digit PIN on the parent's phone through Switch member. Only a parent or guardian can create a kid profile.

What if my child forgets their PIN?

A parent opens More, Family settings, Members, taps the child, then taps Reset PIN on the Edit member sheet. A parent's PIN also always opens a kid profile.

Can children delete tasks?

No. Since version 1.0.6, only grown-ups can delete tasks. Children see My tasks and Up for grabs apart.

What happens when I remove a kid profile?

Tap Remove kid profile on the Edit member sheet. The profile is hidden, but its points and history stay with the family.
